An Edge-y “poem” from the cast and crew

December 4, 2008

After two amazing months of COASTING through the show at Revival Bar, we sadly must come to a close. We have all BECOME so close and BETTER friends through this amazing experience. We opened on October 20th and were READY TO BE LOVED, and a little scared that people would think that our show was DISPENSABLE. Fortunately, the show took off in Toronto with people everywhere saying “I’VE GOTTA RUN to go see Edges”. The response has really made us think: “BOY! WITH DREAMS that come true, you sure feel a lot of pride,” and “MAN! OF MY DREAMS that I hoped would come true, this one ranked pretty high.” Thank you for believing in our show and supporting us all along the way.

I ONCE KNEW someone who told me that sometimes the best ideas come to you when you are simply LYING THERE and LIKE….BREATHING and thinking… and stuff. Well that’s how Edges got started. By simply thinking that this was a show we would all want to be a PART OF; A PAINTING that we wanted to paint together and to share with the people of Toronto. And it’s turned out to be pretty PERFECT.

Special thanks to our headEDGESHEADs for supporting the show (especially CAITLYN AND HALEY).

This is also probably a good opportunity to reveal one of the behind-the-scenes secrets. Through this whole run, Reza and I… HMMM…. YOU know what, I should probably save that announcement for another time.

IN SHORT thank you all for agreeing to BE MY FRIEND and following this site through our run.

Every day with Edges, has been a PRETTY SWEET DAY.

(TRANSITION: Don’t forget there are two final performances of Edges on Sunday (Dec. 7) @ 7PM and Monday @ 8PM (Dec. 8). Visit www.edgestoronto.com to get your tickets to the final shows)

Punctuation overkill

November 25, 2008

There are exactly four performances of Edges left!  We are out of extensions!  All items must go!

So seriously, why haven’t you seen Edges yet?  More importantly, why have you only seen Edges once?  Aren’t you curious about the surprise twist ending?  The final four shows feature a special vote-your-own finale!  The audience gets to choose who performs the big tap dance in the final scene (please vote for Sara – it’ll be funny)!  If you bring a group of 10 or more, Jordan will give you a lap dance!  All repeat customers get free valet parking courtesy of Gabi Epstein!

That’s the most exclamation points I’ve ever used in one sitting.  I’m exhausted.  I’m just not that demonstrative a guy.  But seriously.  The only way I could more accurately portray the urgency of the situation would be if I was TALKING IN CAPS LOCK THE ENTIRE TIME!!!!

But hey, don’t just take it from me.  Let’s hear what some Toronto artists have to say about Edges…

“These four performers are the most talented people in the history of anything edgy.  Fuck you smooth curves, it’s Edges forever.”
         – Jeff Moulton
“Edges is my new religion.  Except for Christianity.”
         – Kyle Blair
“A perfect infinite symbiosis of ‘Holy Crap!’ and ‘Hot Damn!’  Truly an orgasm of sound.”
         – Caden Douglas & Mike Lomenda in unison
“I swear to God, Gabi, if you touch me there again, I’m calling Equity.”
         – Jordan Bell

You are almost out of chances.  If you miss it, you will hate yourself forever and incur thousands of dollars in therapy bills.  Trust me.  I can see the future.

EDGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tempting fate…

November 7, 2008
Okay. So Edges is open. We’ve got a few weeks’ worth of shows under our belts and so far it’s all gone very well. No big disasters, awesome houses, great response. Here’s my thing. In every production there’s always one performance where something insane happens. You know what I mean. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just the law of averages – you repeat the same evening enough times, eventually something weird goes on.

So I want to know…how long before somebody falls down (Gabi)…or someone spills a water bottle on the electric piano (Jordan)…or an actor wets themself onstage (let’s be honest).

I don’t mean to jinx anything, I really don’t. The fact of the matter is, the Edges run has gone so unbelievably well. It can be unnerving. I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to be working on this material with these people.

Well, I don’t have to tell you. You already know. Because you’ve seen it, right? And told all your friends to see it?

And if you haven’t, just think how much better the odds are that you’ll be there the night that I slip on a puddle of my own sweat, send an untied running shoe flying and knock a spinning disco ball directly into your lap. Don’t miss your chance. Book your tickets for Edges. Somebody with a PVR can always tape The Amazing Race.

Edges, Edges Everwhere!!

October 30, 2008

Edges officially opened on Monday night to a sold-out, hugely enthusiastic crowd, and now it seems to be taking over the media!

First, The Toronto Star wrote an amazing piece on how Edges is trying to change theatergoing habits in the city:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/Theatre/article/524963

Then, after opening, we received two awesome reviews.

The Toronto Star gave the show 3 out of 4 stars saying:

“Four joyous young singers and the pair of dynamite musicians who back them up are more than enough reason to urge you to go see Edges.”

“Jordan Bell is alternately sweet and sly… Eric Craig is hysterically bitchy then beautifully lyrical… Sara Farb burns with a clean bright light Gabi Epstein] stops the evening cold twice.”

Read the rest of it here:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/525719

Then Eye Weekly gave us 4 out of 5 stars:

Finally, our fourth Edgy questions has been posted on Youtube! The video features clips from “Pretty Sweet Day” and has the cast baffled over a question about “friendship”.

Enjoy!

Best Buy blue is not my colour

October 16, 2008

It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me.  In my defense, it’s been a little while since anyone’s heard from me.  I’ve been busy with (mostly) really boring stuff.  If you’re looking for a good interest rate, check out PC Financial before November 30.  Yep.  That’s how boring.

In other news that is definitely less boring and definitely more embarassing…you can all look for me in a Best Buy commercial coming out next month.  Just last week I was shooting in a Best Buy in Etobicoke until 6 am.  The spot has me in one of those blue polo shirts being very helpful, friendly and, at one point, giggling like a little girl.  We shot my close-ups at 5 in the morning so, frankly, I’m curious to see if they use them.

Oh!  And I bought a camera (at Best Buy – seemed only fair) so I have a few pictures to post!  I’m still getting the hang of it.  And I’m discovering it’s difficult to take many pictures of a show when you never leave the stage.  But there you are.  If anyone knows why my pics seem to be fuzzier when I turn off the flash, please tell me.  I’m confused.  And I don’t like using a flash.

Also…and this is important.  I’ve come to realise that our show will be performing on Sunday nights, while The Amazing Race is airing.  Don’t panic, everyone.  I know someone with PVR.  They are my hero.  Without them, I would require a tv with me onstage.  Now here’s the thing.  If you come to the show on a Monday night, please don’t yell out who was eliminated that week.  Or if you do, don’t choose a quiet moment in the show.  I may not have watched it yet.  If you want to say it under your breath during boisterous applause, that’s fine.  Please exercise good judgement.

In fact, I would say maybe yelling things out isn’t the best idea.  After songs is fine.  Here is a list of things you can yell out after songs have finished…

1.  Eric rocks!
2.  That was so edgy!
3.  I love The Amazing Race!
4.  Excellent tone and resonance!  The acting choices were strong!

Feel free to yell the first one a lot.  Especially after Jordan’s solos.

If you have other things you would like to yell during Edges, feel free to post them on my wall and I will give you either a thumbs up or thumbs down.  Just so we know where we stand.
